Amulet, are talismans that are often carried or worn around the neck to enhance a person’s emotional and mental state, encourage mindfulness of Buddhist teachings, and attract wealth and prosperity. In some cases, they are also used as a form of protection from demons, ghosts, black magic, and other nasty things that go bump in the night, especially while travelling or traversing the dangerous country.
There is a widespread belief in Thailand, that wearing specific amulets complements specific zodiac signs. The characteristics of each sign are consulted and a complementary amulet is recommended to balance and enhance the luck of the wearer. This serves to amplify your horoscope’s effects and bring you increased luck, wealth, romance, and happiness.
The Astrological Zodiac according to Thai Fortune Telling
Our modern astrological signs have their roots in Indian Vedic traditions. The systems do diverge somewhat though, with the “Nirayana” (Indian) system deviating from the “Sayana” (Western) system by a few degrees to account for the Precession of Equinoxes. Though the dates they occupy differ slightly, the classification by the 4 elements; Water, Earth, Air and Fire, remains the same.
Water signs People born under a water sign, place heavy emphasis on their thoughts and emotions. They are extremely sensitive and empathetic, but also boundlessly flexible, able to ebb and flow with the tides of life.
They have a generous heart and are quick to love, freely sharing it with family, friends and even strangers. By nature, they are diligent, witty, well-behaved and responsible.
Earth signs tend to breed strong-minded people. Responsible, down to earth, prudent, more often than not, ready to loudly air their grievances when faced with injustice. They are doers and shun excessive idealism. They are confident and well-equipped to deal with all of life’s challenges but are sometimes prone to being tripped up by Materialism.
Air signs are individuals who are constantly redefining their own paradigm. Although prone to dreaming, they are intellectuals and put equal parts to rationale, capable of mitigating impulse with careful consideration. These qualities make them excellent thinkers and planners. They are also outgoing, and excellent at interpersonal communication.
Fire signs Those born under a Fire sign possess self-confidence, leadership skills, and generosity. They tend to be emotionally stable and relish socialising. They also excel at communicating with others. They fear neither change nor failure, and are always willing to try new things.
Based on the strengths and weaknesses of each sign, suitable Phra Kreung may be selected to influence an individual’s destiny.
In Part 1, we will recommend amulets to support these 6 signs; Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus and Gemini
(Note: we will be doing an article in future with regards to the multiple hand gestures of a Buddha statue.)
(Note: The dates given follows the system of Thai astrology, and will differ from other systems.)
Capricorn (15 Jan – 14 Feb)
Capricorn is the Earth element of the zodiac. They are more ambitious than other zodiac signs and are often prone to overwork. Though often appreciated by their bosses’ kindness who regard them with kindness and kinship, Capricorns are unfortunately often viewed as condescending by their subordinates. Capricorns should be extremely attuned to this reality, and make a conscious effort to minimise or even diminish actions that might be misconstrued in this manner.
Amulet for Capricorns
Capricorns may wear amulets such as Phra Kring. These help to dispel any negative energy surrounding them and enhances their relationships with other people, in addition to supporting their career progression. Both men and women may wear the same style.
Aquarius (15 Feb – 14 Mar)
Aquarius is an air sign, making them versatile and easily adaptable to their surroundings. Aquarians are sincere and empathetic, much like a bottomless jug of love and nurturing. They speak openly and are not afraid of showing gratitude. Aquarius at times seems unfortunate, however, as they appear to be able to help everyone but themselves, sometimes needing a little intervention to endure life’s challenges.
Amulet of Aquarius
Amulets for Aquarians are those possessing “liquid” characteristics, such as holy water, consecrated aromatic oils, or amulets immersed in enchanted oil. Alternatively, they may opt for powder-based amulets that were crafted without heat. This also means that metal-based amulets are unsuitable for them.
Men should wear amulets featuring the Buddha in a meditative pose; Phra NaProk
Ladies should wear amulets that are consecrated by monks through meditative powers. An example of these are Phra Somdej
Pisces (15 March – 12 April)
Pisces are a Water Sign. Pisces are a reflection of their sign itself having to swim through a sea of challenges to get what they want. Like fish, they too are wary, and often bolt at the slightest sign of mistrust or suspicion. Remaining totally neutral, however, usually gets them out of sticky situations.
Amulet of Pisces
The ideal amulets for Pisces are amulets featuring the Buddha, made or cast from metal, such as “Phra Put Chinnaj
This style is similarly required for ladies of the star sign.
Aries (13 Apr – 14 May)
Aries is a Fire Sign. An Aries is a fast thinker and fast worker. Highly ambitious, brave and desiring to be one above most others, this zodiac represents rapid, constant motion.

Amulet for Aries
Because of Aries’s fiery temperament, an amulet for peace is most appropriate, such as a Buddha in a meditative posture, Phra Pāng NāProk
Male Aries are known to be impulsive, they should wear an amulet that provides journey mercies and safety. These should ideally be crafted from baked clay or powdered, mixed with a holy soil.
Ladies should wear similarly-themed amulets, made of consecrated powder, as this attracts mercy from those around them, particularly for those in a fast, chaotic environment where they need to try and check their impulses, as they will have consequences.
Taurus (May 15 – June 14)
Taurus are an Earth Sign. In both action and speech, they are swift decisive, and headstrong, but also steadfast, cautious, honest. Their downfall is their temper, which burns white-hot at the slightest provocation.
Taurus are woe to control their emotions, often being controlled by them when they fall victim to bouts of unfettered rage.
Amulet for Taurus
Impatient by nature, Taurus should don amulets of a calming, soothing nature. This should be made of stone, and feature monks or Buddhas with calm dispositions. Some examples are Phra NaProk
Ladies might consider a Phra Pidta
Gemini (15 Jun – 14 Jul)
Gemini is an Air Sign. People born under this sign, seem to occupy two entire personalities at once, with rapidly-shifting emotions that oscillate between periods of extreme happiness, and bouts of anguish and sorrow. Geminis should aspire towards mental clarity, and make a conscious effort to disregard the words of others.
Amulet for Gemini
As sensitive people, Geminis should choose amulets that enhance stability in their lives.
Images of the Buddha or monks are preferred, ideally crafted from molten metal. They may opt to wear Phra Ruang
Geminis are also advised to avoid Phra Pāng Prathān Phorn
This concludes Part 1. Stay tuned for Part 2, where we will explore amulets for the next 6 signs: Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius.
